Ashanda Powell, MD
Native to Philadelphia, Ashanda was raised in the Nicetown-Tioga section of Philadelphia. Her interest in medicine began at a young age with her earliest memory of having a Fisher Price Doctor’s tool kit and testing knee reflexes of willing family members. She attended Julia R. Masterman Middle and High School and matriculated to the Johns Hopkins University.
At Johns Hopkins, she majored in Biology and began to participate in community activities and employment opportunities that helped to shape her interest in medicine. Throughout the years, she developed interests in substance abuse medicine, primary care and community health. As a minority Physician and also the first Physician in her family, she is also interested in helping other minority first time Physicians in their family obtain their goals.
She is currently Board Certified in Family Medicine and is an Addiction Medicine Fellow at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Her ultimate goal is to manage/develop a Federally Qualified Health Center that provides not only medical care but houses the social resources needed to make the members of the community self sufficient.
